The Kansas City Energy Empowerment Ordinance was adopted in 2015 to raise awareness of energy and water performance by benchmarking and reporting of energy and water use in buildings. The law calls on existing large municipal, institutional, commercial and multi-family residential buildings to track whole-building usage and report to the City annually.
Municipal buildings 10,000 SF and above along with institutional, commercial and multi-family residential buildings 50,000 SF and above must comply with this ordinance each year in ENERGY STARĀ® Portfolio Manager.
Municipal buildings 10,000 SF and above and institutional, commercial and multi-family residential buildings 100,000 SF and above must comply by May 1, 2017 and each May 1st thereafter. Institutional, commercial and multi-family residential buildings 50,000 SF and above must comply by May 1, 2018 and each May 1st thereafter.
